The independent presidential candidate in the 2016 presidential and parliamentary elections, Jacob Osei Yeboah (JOY), has asked President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to find jobs for the members of the vigilante groups affiliated to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in order to quell the rampaging.

According to him, members of the groups are unemployed and hungry, therefore their engagement in the vandalism.

Mr Osei Yeboah explained that vigilantism has become a part of Ghana political arena over the years. They provide security for the political parties that are in opposition, he said.

Speaking in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of the Ghana Yensom show on Accra 100.5FM on Tuesday, October 31 in connection with the recent attacks on state institutions by the vigilante groups, JOY said: “Take it or leave it, these vigilante groups have become part of our political system, they provide you with security when you are in opposition because the focus of the state security apparatus is on the government.

“These boys are engaging in the rampaging because of one thing; that is joblessness. They have no jobs doing and so they are inclined to engage in these actions, and so the government must find jobs for them. At least they can form part of the security arrangement in place to fight the galamsey menace in the country.”
