EC receives vote transfer applications

The Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) says it will from Friday, October 25 receive applications for transfer of votes as well as special and proxy voting at its district offices throughout the country.

The applications will be received till Monday, November 4.

“Applicants for transfer of votes must present themselves, their voter ID cards and proof of residence at their new locality,” a statement on Thursday, October 24 said.

Applicants should have stayed in their new locality for at least 12 months.

“Applicants requesting for special voting must be qualified voters in the district and can vote only in the referendum.

“Again, voters who want to have proxy vote, that is, have someone else cast their vote for them, must go with the proxy who should be a registered voter at the same polling station to the District Offices of the Commission for the necessary procedures to be effected.”

This exercise is being done in time for the referendum on December 17, 2019.

The referendum will decide whether political parties can sponsor candidates for election into district assemblies and unit committees.
