A member of the legal team of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), lawyer Garry Nimako Marfo has taken a swipe at the Electoral Commission (EC) over its decision to petition the Supreme Court to quash the ruling granted by the Accra High Court ordering the Commission to allow the Progressive People's presidential candidate, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom to correct anomalies on his forms quashed.

The EC is invoking the supervisory jurisdiction of the Supreme Court in their appeal.

But speaking to Kwame Tutu on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, Garry Nimako Marfo said, the EC from what they’ve done has confirmed the assertion that they are ready for the 2016 general elections.

The lawyer lambasted the EC for failing to consider the interest of the entire country and abide by the ruling of the Accra High Court and rather waste time to fight legal battles in court seeking to disqualify candidates from contesting.

The EC he noted has failed to release the register, organize and sensitize electorates ahead of the upcoming elections and rather wasting time on unnecessary issues which would delay the process for the elections.

He told the host that they will be meeting as legal team for the PPP, and respond appropriately to the EC over the appeal brought before the Supreme Court.

"The EC is not serious and ready for the elections. With less than 36 days to the elections, the EC is battling candidates in court. They have not given political parties the register for the general elections. They have not organized any program to educate or sensitize electorates on how to vote. The posturing of the EC shows clearly that it is not ready to hold the elections on December 7, 2016."
