Akufo-Addo to honour new Ya-Naa at his investiture

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will on Friday, January 25, 2019 attend the investiture of Yo-Naa Abubakari Mahama II, as the overlord of the Dagon traditional area.

This follows the successful completion of the traditional processes after his selection on Friday January 18, 2019 by the kingmakers who consulted the Dagbon oracles, mynewsgh.com reports

Yo-Naa was among four persons including Nyab Tampion-Lana, Nyab Kampakuya-Naa and Nyab Boling-Lana whose names came up as possible successors of the late Ya-Naa whose funerals have all be performed.

The consulting elders include Gushei Naa and Kuganaa who nominated the Chief of Savulugu to succeed the late Ya Naa Yakubu Andani II who died in 2002.

MyNewsGh.com gathered that the nomination is in line with the customs and traditions in respect of succession to the Kingship of Dagbon.

The decision of the traditional selection committee is also in line with the Dagbon constitution of 1930 and the Supreme Court decision of December 1986.

The Supreme Court in 1986 ordered that only occupants of the gate skins of Mion, Karaga and Savulugu are eligible to contest for the Kingship of Dagbon. The Supreme Court decision also barred regents of deceased Ya Naa’s from contesting for the chieftaincy of Yendi.

As part of processes to end the entire proceedings, the Kingmakers have scheduled Friday for the coronation of the new King with the president said to attend and honour the new King.

Last week the President stated that he looks forward to visiting the new Ya-Naa assuring him the support of the current government to restore Dagbon to its former glory and greatness.

“I look forward eagerly to visiting Yendi soon to congratulate the new Ya-Naa in person, once he is outdoored. I assure him and the entire people of Dagbon of my Government’s wholehearted support in helping to restore Dagbon to its former glory and greatness”

“I am confident that the new Ya-Naa will steer ably the affairs of Dagbon, move swiftly to place the Kampakuya Na and the Bolin Lana in their rightful positions in the Kingdom, and help bring lasting peace and unity to one of the most ancient traditional states of our nation. He is an experienced and mature man, a man who loves his people, and a man who will work to ensure that Dagbon prospers, and offers opportunities for its youth to enhance their lives in normalcy and security” he said in a press statement copied to MyNewsGh.com.
