Close contender of the current Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Asare Bediako has confirmed on Kumasi-based Abusua Fm he indeed had a meeting with the President at Kwahu during the Easter festivities but it was not to persuade him to resign from running.

“I went to Kwahu and met with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo but we did not discuss about my bid to become Regional Chairman and he also did not persuade me to step down and allow Chairman Wontumi to go unopposed”, he told host Kwame Adinkra during a telephone interview the monitored by MyNewsGH.com.

Though he will not divulge details of the meeting with the President, he said he passed through as he was heading to another area and took the opportunity to meet the number one gentleman of the land where their discussions centered on different issues outside politics.

He appealed to his supporters to remain calm and continue with their campaign indicating that misinformation that he was no longer interested in running as Chairman of the party in the region is a fiction of someone’s imagination and must be treated with the contempt it deserves.

“I am urging all my supporters to still go ahead and campaign for me. Let me put it on record that I have not resigned and will never resign. The campaign is ongoing and we are garnering votes ahead of the regional contest which I am optimistic of winning by a landslide victory”, he stressed.

Mr Asare Bediako revealed he is the favorite of delegates and will shock his closest contender and the incumbent Bernard Antwi Boasiako alias Chairman Wontumi.
