Lance Corporal Frederick Amanor also known as Skalla, is expected to today, Monday, 23 July 2018, to appear in court for assaulting a customer of Midland Savings and Loans at Shaishie in Accra.

Skalla ruthlessly assaulted the victim, Patience Safo, while holding a baby.

Ms Safo had insisted on withdrawing a sum of GHS270 from the facility as her previous attempts to withdraw the money days back had failed due to apparent network challenges.

Skalla, who was serving as a security personnel at the financial institution was asked to escort Ms Safo out but ended up beating her in the process.

The assault was captured on video, which has gone viral on social media and received widespread condemnation.

Meanwhile, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said he will support any measure taken by the IGP to punish Skalla.

Speaking at the Nalerigu palace of the Overlord of Mamprugu, during his tour of the northern part of the country, Nana Akufo-Addo said: “Yesterday, we had some very bad news in Accra – police beating up a woman who had gone to get money at the Midland Loans and Savings Company. I want to say here: policemen are meant to protect citizens and not to assault citizens.”

“The measures that the IGP has taken to sanction the erring policeman and to make sure these don’t happen again, have my complete support. I support 100 per cent the measures he has taken so that we can stop these incidents from proliferating.”
