A member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi has described the President's suspension of the Upper West Regional Minister as "face-cleansing gimmick".

President Akufo-Addo through a statement issued on Thursday, February 1, 2018 suspended the Upper West Regional Minister, Mr. Suleman Alhassan over his alleged instruction for the release of some NPP thugs who were arrested after they allegedly attacked the Upper West Regional National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) Boss on Wednesday, January 31, 2018.

Mr. Suleman has denied the allegation levelled against him but that hasn't stopped President Akufo-Addo from cracking the whip by suspending him from office.

The Deputy Regional Minister Amidu Ishaq, has been asked to act in the stead of Suleman pending the conclusion of investigations into the matter.

In a Facebook post, Sammy Gyamfi questioned the principle and rationale behind the Presidents actions and stated that the decision is nothing but a scapegoat tactic meant for propaganda purposes.

"So after a long desperate search, President Akufo Addo finally found a soft target to make his first "scapegoat"...he has found a convenient prey (Alhaji Sulemana Alhasa- Upper West Regional Minister) whom he has hurriedly devoured to save his fast-waning integrity", he emphasized.

"So if I may ask, why was Ken Ofori Atta not suspended pending CHRAJ's investigation into the infamous KENBOND SCANDAL?" he queried.

SAMMY GYAMFI WRITES ON HIS FACEBOOK WALL

So after a long desperate search, President Akufo Addo finally found a soft target to make his first "scapegoat".

At long last, he has found a convenient prey (Alhaji Sulemana Alhasa- Upper West Regional Minister) whom he has hurriedly devoured to save his fast-waning integrity.

We are told that the rationale for this decision is to allow investigations to be conducted into the issues. So if I may ask, why was Ken Ofori Atta not suspended pending CHRAJ's investigation into the infamous KENBOND SCANDAL? Why didn't the President suspend Carlos Ahenkora, Alfred Obeng and the many other errant appointees of his, who have been subjects of similar investigations in the past? Is it because of the fact that the appointee in question is neither, a crony, family, financier, native nor friend of the president?

Mr. President! Your real motive for this hypocritical decision can only be lost on a political neophyte. Ghanaians are discerning. We can read between the lines and see through this face-cleansing gimmick.

Your double standards, naked bias, and unprincipled inconsistencies are too glaring. Ghanaians deserve better!
