A middle-aged woman was Saturday killed by unknown assailants at Alavanyo in the Volta Region. Her death is being linked to the about a century-long protracted land dispute between indigenes there and those from neigbouring town, Nkonya.

Many lives have been lost as a result of the misunderstanding over a parcel of land with five persons being shot dead since April this year.

Today’s shooting incident comes a day after government renewed the curfew hours imposed on the Alavanyo and Nkonya townships from 8.00 pm to 5.30 am, which is expected to take effect from Sunday, May 21, 2017.

A youth leader in Alavanyo, Kwaku Abotsi who confirmed the incident to TV3 said the gunmen opened fire on a group of women who had gathered under a mango tree, killing one around 7:30 Saturday morning.

“We suspect that the Nkonya people came and killed the woman,” he alleged. The body has since been deposited at the Kpando mortuary while the security agencies intensify patrol there.
