The Private Enterprise Federation (PEF) is demanding the government’s Economic Management Team (EMT) to begin publishing reports of their meetings.

According to PEF, the publication is expected to help investors, both local and foreigners to make decisions regarding investing in the right areas in the economy which will yield the needed returns in profits while creating employment opportunities.

PEF’s demand comes at a time that the Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia disclosed that the New Patriotic Party government headed by the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has put in place a functional Economic Management Team which meets every week.

The EMT according to Dr. Bawumia is mandated to review the health of the economy and take decisions which is to create the enabling environment for the private sector which is expected to be the engine of growth when they meet.

The Chief Executive Officer of PEF, Nana Osei Bonsu, said the time has come for the EMT to make public reports from their meetings which will help the business community to make decisions regarding the economy and how to invest rightly.

“The EMT is a constitutional mandated body which takes decisions that have impact or you will say adverse effect on the economy and we have to make sure that it is working. And do make sure it is working, like the Bank of Ghana Monetary Policy Committee does by making public report on decision taken at their meetings. So we also want to see the workings of the EMT and make sure that at least we can contribute to their efficiency.”

“We are talking about something like the report which will detail what the Bank of Ghana is saying about the economy, what the Ghana Statistical Service and other research organisations are saying, plus what the private sector is saying about the economy.”

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is said to have put together a powerful 11-member team to help turn the economic fortunes of the country around.

The team included the likes of Dr. Paul Acquah, Prof. Gyan Baffour, Prof. Ernest Aryeetey, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, Ken Ofori-Atta, Kwaku Kwarteng among others.
