Speaker not selling buses to cronies – Parliament

The Speaker of Parliament, Prof Mike Oquaye, has not sold buses to his friends, as suggested by the Herald newspaper, acting Director of Public Affairs of Parliament, Ms Kate Addo, has stated.

In a press release, Ms Addo pointed out that: “the Speaker of Parliament was not involved in the disposal of vehicles in the House”.

Parliament is therefore demanding a retraction and apology from the newspaper over the publication.

Ms Addo explained that 13 vehicles were offered to selected Members and staff of Parliament after extensive assessment by the Intercity State Transport Corporation (STC) and approval by the Parliamentary Service Board that they be auctioned based on laid down procedure.

She indicated that the process has existed over successive parliamentary sessions and the Speaker has no hand in that.
