NPP denies government plans to sack NDC GNAT executives

The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has denied claims that government has a plan to replace some executives of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) due to their affiliation with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

"How possible? ...And we challenge anyone who has evidence that NPP or this government is doing something to remove anyone from GNAT Executive position to provide document to that effect", the Ashanti Regional Organizer of NPP, Mr. Francis Adomako told newsmen in Kumasi.

A statement issued and signed by Lawrence Lamptey, an aspiring Deputy National Youth Organizer of the opposition NDC accuses the NPP administration of masterminding the yet to be implemented agenda across the country starting from the Volta Region.

“The government, through some NPP GNAT officials is planning on denying all Teachers suspected to be NDC members a position in the Ghana National Association of Teachers body and replace them with known NPP Branch Executives”, the statement alleged.

However, speaking on 'the baseless allegation of Lamptey to win votes from his party', Mr. Francis Adomako on behalf of the party in the region cast doubt how this alleged plan by the government could be implemented.

"How can this happen in the law? We need explanation", the politician cum lecturer with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) quizzed.

“The Constitution of GNAT explicitly allows all members, no matter their political affiliations, to hold a GNAT executive position if they wish to. Article 20, sub-clause c, of the GNAT Constitution is clear on that”, Mr. Francis Adomako pointed it out.
