My 'parliament can not sit under trees' comment misconstrued – K.T. Hammond

Member of parliament for Adansi Asokwa, Hon. K.T. Hammond who recently came under a lot of backlash after making some controversial statements regarding the proposed new parliamentary chamber on the floor of parliament says that his comments were purely misconstrued, ABC News can report.

According to the lawmaker, his comments were meant to emphasize the fact that there was no need for parliament to look into the possibility of getting a new chamber particularly when there was already an existing chamber.

He accused the media of presenting a skewed report on his submissions on the floor of the house and asked for reparation because the attributions made to him were “extraordinarily scandalous”, he confessed.

“Yes I made the point, that was the introductory point I made that I know you tend to misconstrue things I said but I prefaced my statement carefully because I know what the press is going to do with it…and so whatever it was that I thought they would understand and take me on in that context of what I was saying not to misconstrue it… it’s quite unfair”.

He says his concerns that day were to get the majority leader, Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, to explain the issues on the source(s) of funding because many other legislators like himself, were oblivious and more so, why the presidency was silent on the construction of the new chamber.
