Martin Amidu himself deserves to be prosecuted for corruption - Murtala Mohammed

Martin Amidu, Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu, Special Prosecutor

Former Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Murtala Ibrahim Mohammed has observed that the Ghana’s Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu is a perfect candidate for corruption prosecution himself if the current administration is indeed committed to fighting the canker, MyNewsGh.com has filed.

He disclosed on a Tamale-based Radio station that Mr. Amidu who has lost credibility over time since his appointment, has been ‘snoring’ and drawing salary causing financial loss to the state despite budgetary allocations made to his outfit in both the 2017 and 2018 annual budgets.

“This man has been chopping this money and I think he is a perfect candidate for prosecution”, he advocated.

The former Nantong lawmaker reiterated that shown evidence that the money spent on him and his office has brought any good to the country in respect of his mandate as Special Prosecutor endorsing calls for him to be hauled before the courts.

“That man frankly speaking does not have credibility. He told someone I always attack him. When I listen to the NPP and their surrogates saying oh they have given Martin Amidu money. The budget they gave him is about 150 million Ghana Cedis in 2018 as if in 2017 there wasn’t any budget office of the Special Prosecutor…there was, 2018 there was. They create the impression there has never been a budget line for him in 2017 and 2018. There was a budget line for the Special Prosecutor in 2017 financial statement. There was also a budget line 2018”, he stated.

Explaining the processes through which budgets are released to state institutions, he said “There is one thing having a budget line for a Ministry or agency and having same approved and having it being approved under the appropriation bill. There is another thing releasing that money”
