Welcome to our continuous coverage of the 2019 AFCON in Egypt.

Senegal take on Algeria in a fierce battle for the second Group C game at 30 June Stadium in Cairo on Thursday.

The Teranga Lions, without their star man and Liverpool forward Sadio Mane, hit the ground running in their opening game, securing a comfortable 2-0 victory over Tanzania and will look to consolidate that winning start against the North Africans.

On the other hand, the Desert Foxes proved too strong for Kenya, defeating the Harambee Stars 2-0 in their opening game to extend their unbeaten run to seven games in total and will hope to dent the hopes of Africa's top-ranked nation.

Senegal will be without Salif Sane after the 28-year-old suffered an ankle injury against Tanzania but will welcome back their influential captain Sadio Mane, who missed their opening game against the Taifa Stars due to yellow cards accumulations during the qualifiers.

The Liverpool star and Champions League winner is expecting a difficult game against Djamel Belmadi’s men but he is confident his side can claim the three points.

Algeria have no injury worries ahead of their meeting with the West Africans. Coach Djamel Belmadi will likely stick with the players that started their game against Kenya with Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez expected to lead the side against Aliou Cisse’s men.

Belmadi believes the game is important but insisted it will not decide their progress to the knockout stage with Kenya game still in hand.
