Kofi Kingston joins Black Stars for Farewell Dinner

WWE Champion, Kofi Sarkodie-Mensah, better known as Kofi Kingston, joined the Black Stars on Friday for their Farewell Dinner at the Kempinski hotel as they prepare to depart from the country for Dubai to fine-tune their preparations for the 2019 AFCON.

The renowned wrestler who is in Ghana for a 4-day visiting tour used the opportunity to meet up with the Black Stars before they attempt to win a 5th AFCON title for Ghana.

Although Kingston is not a huge fan of football, the wrestler recounted how he felt proud as a Ghanaian when the Black Stars featured at the 2014 World Cup. He added that he vouched his support as a patriotic citizen for the West African team when they slugged it out with the American’s at the World Cup.

“I felt proud and Ghanaian to watch you guys play at the World Cup and you guys played the United States and everybody asked who are you cheering for and instantly I said the Black Stars every time,” Kingston expressed.

He added, “As a man who believes in dedication to service, Kingston says he is optimistic Ghana is capable of annexing the AFCON trophy.”

According to captain of the side, Andre Ayew, this year’s tournament is going to be tough. He further called on Ghanaians to offer their unflinching support to the Stars by remembering them in prayers anytime.

Ayew said, “It’s going to be a tough tournament, we have played many but I think we have the Technical Team to make Ghana proud. We are going to do our best and fight to make sure that the trophy comes home.”

“We really need the support of all Ghanaians, I believe that we have all what it takes as well as talents but without luck, we cannot make it, so we need every Ghanaian to pray for us from the North, South, East and West, Ayew concluded.

The event was graced by the Deputy Sports Minister, Perry Okudzeto, Tourism Minister - Barbara Oteng-Gyasi, Black Stars Technical team, members of the Normalization Committee and a host of other dignitaries.

Organizers of the dinner, the Ministry of Tourism also used the opportunity to present locally made fugu to the team as well as Kingston to help them promote and put Ghana on the world map.

The Black Stars will be leaving the shores of Ghana to Abu Dhabi on Saturday to prepare for the AFCON.
