President Nana Akufo-Addo is mocking the people of Keta by appointing Dr Alexander Adusei as the Director of the yet-to-be-built Keta Sea Port, Keta MP Richard Quashigah has said.

“ … A seaport does not exist in Keta today for which a director is required. In fact, it could be seen as an attempt to ridicule and mock the people of the area by the president, the current father of our homeland,” he said.

At a press conference on Monday, 1 April 2019, Mr Quashigah accused Mr Akufo-Addo of wilfully causing financial loss to the state and demanded the withdrawal of the appointment.

According to the MP, it takes about GHS100,000 to maintain a director for a port in Ghana, thus, described the appointment of Dr Adusei by the president as unnecessary and an attempt to milk the public purse.

An appointment letter dated 19 March 2019 signed by the Minister of Transport, Mr Kwaku Ofori Asiama, congratulated the Ohio State University-trained lawyer on his appointment.

However, Deputy Minister of Transport, Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover has backed the appointment. He told Accra-based Joy FM that the director will “supervise the groundwork” and operate as a “liaison” officer to “engage consultants, architects and the community” concerning the construction of the port.
