I’d have fired Napo if I were President – NDC’s Opare Addo

The Youth Wing of the Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is demanding the dismissal of Education Minister, Matthew Opoku Prempeh for his comments on students and parents who collapsed at the Black Star Square.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh on Tuesday said some of the people who collapsed faked it to give the government negative publicity.

But speaking to Citi News, the National Youth Organizer of the NDC, George Opare Addo who led a team to distribute water and soft drinks to people at the square said the president must sack the Education Minister for what he calls unguarded statements.

“It is striking knowledge for anybody to know that at the introduction of any new software there will definitely be what we call basic problems. When problems like that emerge what we expect from leadership is for them to take charge of the situation and find solutions to the problems."

"So when I heard the Minister speak on Asempa FM yesterday I was disgusted and asked myself what is happening in our country. He reduced the office of a Minister of State and it is appalling. If I am in Akufo-Addo’s shoes, to give credibility to governance, I would fire Napo,” he said.

NAPO’s comments

Education Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, insisted that some of the collapses at the Black Star Square were staged.

According to the Minister, some persons who wanted to mar the efforts of the Ministry to address the issues of placement of students into Senior High Schools bribed some people to feign exhaustion and collapse.

“We opened the center at the independence square to address the needs of Ghanaians who want to go to school, but some evil people have decided to pay GHC20 and GHC50 to people to go there and stage fainting and collapse, yesterday some of the collapses were fake. I’m even wondering why they brought little kids to the centre.”

The National Youth Organizer added that he and his team did nothing wrong by going to distribute soft drinks and water at the Black Star Square because they are a party that believe in social democracy.

He stated that they took permission from the security services who were present and also spoke to the GES officials to ascertain what the problems were.
