Ghanaians work mathematics to determine Black Stars survival

Ghanaian supporters Ghanaian supporters

Ghanaians are at it again.

Everyone is busily calculating the fate of the Black Stars in the ongoing AFCON. Some are doing addition: If Ghana beat Guinea Bissau, the Black Stars chances to the next stage with 5 points being the first or the second team to qualify,

Others are doing subtraction: If Cameroon beat Benin and Ghana draw with Guinea Bissau, Black Stars qualify to the knockout stage with 3 points.

Many choose to go the long way of doing the division method: when Ghana draw with Guinea Bissau and Benin beat Cameroon then Ghana go with Benin as the second team that qualifies with three points.

The substitution method is best for many Ghanaians too, which is if Guinea-Bissau beat Ghana, the African Wild Dogs get four points and when Cameroon beat Benin, automatically, Ghana are out of the game and Guinea Bissau advance to the next stage with Cameroon. Moreover, the elimination method is also on for many since it will determine which team advances if Ghana draw with Guinea-Bissau and Benin draw with Cameroon.

Those sticking to logarithm are not doing badly in their calculations, since if Guinea-Bissau beat Ghana, the African Wild Dogs qualify with four points and when Benin defeat Cameroon they also qualify with five points which takes Ghana and Cameroon home.

The calculators are all working tirelessly with the ‘ifs’ playing games on the minds of Ghanaians. The fate of the Black Stars is at stake, but the coach, James Kwesi Appiah, assures all Ghanaians that the Black Stars will qualify to the next stage.

Yet, the calculations seem not to rest because those behind it are uneasy and will not rest till the game between Ghana and Guinea-Bissau is over tonight, and the fate of the Black Stars is decided.
