Capt. Rtd Dennis Mahama, father of the late Capt. Maxwell Adam Mahama has expressed his disappointment in the DCE for Upper Denkyira West for his comments which suggested that the lynching of Capt. Mahama was justifiable.

The DCE, Daniel Appianin accused the late Capt. Adam Mahama who was heading a military detachment near Denkyira Obuasi in the Central Region of protecting illegal miners particularly the Chinese.

Appianin also denied any knowledge of a military detachment into the area and noted that late Capt. Mahama was there to protect the illegal mining sites.

However, responding to the comments by the DCE, the father of the late Captain insisted the statements were reckless and irresponsible.

“He was there to protect illegal Chinese people and you the DCE what did you do about that? DCE representing the president there a soldier is there protecting illegal Chinese? He shouldn’t get us mad! You have responsibility as the District Security (DISEC) chairman and you didn’t do anything about it?” he quizzed.

He disabused the notion that late Capt. Mahama was protecting illegal mining sites stating that the his son was required to always report to his superiors who supervised his work in the community.

The ex-military officer supported calls for the suspension of the DCE and agreed with the assertion that the comments demonstrate "he is incompetent" and not fit for the task he’s been assigned.

“The DCE’S comments are very unfortunate and doesn’t help the situation. It was not befitting of his position, he is supposed to be a responsible man and so he’s not supposed to occupy that seat”

“I have other other kids. They are devastated. And all those types of comments worsen the situation. Upon all these somebody thinks he deserves this? Are you saying that going to protect illegal galamseyers mean you should be stoned to death? Is that what the DCE thinks?” he exclaimed in disbelieve.

Captain Mahama met his untimely death last Monday, May 29, 2017 at dawn while jogging when some residents of the area accused him of being an armed robber and lynched him.

Fourteen persons have so far been arrested in connection with the lynching of the Army Captain with seven currently being remanded in police custody.
