Amidu using Special Prosecutor office to settle personal scores – Edudzi Tamakloe

Lawyer Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe, counsel for the embattled MP for Bawku, Hon. Mahama Ayariga has accused Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, of using his office to settle his personal vendetta against people, ABC News can report.

According to Edudzi Tamakloe, Martin Amidu is using his office to frustrate Mahama Ayariga in a bid to get an ‘ally’ of his unseat Mahama Ayariga as Member of Parliament.

“Two people filed a nomination, one is a personal bosom friend of Martin Amidu, so the friend went and told Martin to investigate his colleague and embarrass him”

Mr. Tamakloe also accused the Special prosecutor of having a special hatred for his client, Mahama Ayariga. He explained that the matter Mr. Amidu is perusing in court has already been investigated by the regional CHRAJ office and the Upper East branch of EOCO adding that all the reports show that his client did nothing wrong.

“For Martin Amidu to single out Mahama Ayariga, it gives you an indication that it is not that Martin Amidu is fighting crime, but it is personal warfare of which he is using the Special Prosecutor’s office as a vehicle.
“Mr. Martin Amidu wants to embarrass and cause public disaffection for Ayariga…… It is a bit bizarre if not ridiculous that we have brought our politics to this level. Politics and personal hatred is driving Martin Amidu,” Edudzi Tamakloe said.

Hon. Mahama Ayariga was dragged to court by Mr. Martin Amidu, the Special Prosecutor for charges concerning fraudulently evading tax on imported vehicles, and using public office for personal gains.

Martin Amidu last week filed fresh charges against Mr. Ayariga after previous charges against the legislator were quashed by the court.
