Amidu should just leave his 'needless' office and go home to sleep - Otukonor

Deputy General Secretary of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Boamah Otokunor has asserted that the creation of the Special Prosecutor's office is in line with President Akufo-Addo’s principle of persecution and intimidation of NDC members.

He explained that if it is not the principle of the President to persecute and intimidate the NDC members, it is hard to comprehend the reason for the set up when there are over 150 lawyers who have been employed to do prosecution work at the office of the Attorney-General.

Describing the office of the Special Prosecutor as “redundant, needless and a disappointment”, the deputy Chief Scribe of the NDC on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' morning show said the NPP “thought that they were bringing this man to handle the position due to his constant backlashes against members of the NDC and for the fact that he has on several occasion been attacking the NDC”.

He reiterated that the office of the Special Prosecutor is "in line with Akufo-Addo’s principle of persecution of NDC members . . . intimidation of our members was why this office of Special Prosecutor was created; hence the appointment of Martin Amidu. Unfortunately for the NPP, the man they appointed to persecute us has failed to deliver the principle of Akufo-Addo”.

He mockingly stated that “for close to 2 years, Martin Amidu has been prosecuting people on radio and yet surprisingly, not a single case has been taken to court which should be worthy of commendation”.

He therefore suggested to President Akufo-Addo not to further waste state resources to run the office of the Special Prosecutor, but redirect the resources to facilitate healthcare delivery in the country and other pressing issues.

“So that Special Prosecution position should not waste state resources while money is needed to facilitate healthcare delivery in the country. There is hardship in the country to the extent that nurses and doctors who have completed schools have not been employed and that the only thing left for this government to do is to borrow around and spend them on kenkey and fish at the Ministry of Finance,” he chided.

He again suggested that the government should consider closing down the office of the Special Prosecutor and channel the resources for other projects.



“If we can save small money from Special Prosecutor office by closing it down, and use that money to cushion the development of the country, it will help a lot. That Special Prosecutor office honestly needs to be shut down so that Martin Amidu can go home to rest because he has served in so many capacities and he should not be embarrassed in a manner President Akufo-Addo has done to him,” he suggested.
