New Melcom shop opens at Aflao

Aflao, Dec. 12, GNA - A multi-million cedi shop belonging to the Melcom Group has began operation at Aflao, becoming the second Indian Investment at Aflao after Diamond Cement Ghana Limited (DCGL). The new shop, stocked with a spectrum of household wares, clothing, electrical and electronic appliances, is the newest among the 16 shops established by the Group including the ones at Accra, Kumasi, Tarkoradi, Tema, Sunyani, Cape Coast and Swedru since its inception in the country 15 years ago.

Mr Mahesh Mayage, Director of the Melcom Group, said the company's competitive pricing policy, which kept prices of goods even across the country, established the shops close to the people and the large collection of goods it had endeared the company to the hearts of many. He named Century Industries, manufacturers of household plastic wares and the Crown Star Electronics, an assembling plant of electronic appliances as the Group's two industrial companies in the country. Mr Mayage said Melcom holds sole agency for a number of international companies such as Sanyo, Akai and Hitachi attracting huge duties and taxes for the Ghanaian economy.

" Products of the two companies are also exported to other ECOWAS member countries", he noted, saying both the shop line and industries have employed 1200 persons.

Lieutenant Colonel Charles Agbenaza, Former Member of Parliament the area who inaugurated the shop commended the Group for bringing their services to Aflao and expressed the hope that the success story of the two companies would help attract other Indian investments to the area.
