Voters registration: Jomoro EC boss projects over 90,000 registrants

Mr. Samuel Mensah, the Municipal Director of Electoral Commission (EC) in the Jomoro Municipality of the Western Region has projected 99,000 registrants in the ongoing nationwide voter's registration exercise in his area.

The exercise commenced on Tuesday, June 30 in some 6,788 clusters made up of five registration centres each across the country.

It is being conducted in 5 phases, each phase spanning 6 days with additional days for mop-up.

The nationwide exercise is expected to end on August 6, 2020.

However, Western Region has seventeen (17) Constituencies and so far, no Constituency has recorded any incident of violence.

Speaking to this reporter after day one of the exercise in Jomoro, Mr. Samuel Mensah said the exercise went on smoothly without any inconvenience.

According to him, Jomoro is having 42 registration centres.

"As for today everything was fine, very fine, there was no problem, we are on course. We have 41 registration centres across Jomoro and we have additional registration centre at our office making the total registration Centre 42", he noted.

Mr. Mensah commended the 250 registration officers for comporting themselves during the day one of the exercise and asked them to continue the good work.

On Coronavirus safety protocols, Mr. Samuel Mensah said Veronica buckets with liquid soaps and tissues, sanitizers and thermometer guns have been provided at all registration centres.

He added that nurses have been engaged to screen the applicants.

With regards to security, he stated that "we have deployed security personnel to provide security for prospective registrants and our registration officers and so far, they have done well."

During a press conference held on Sunday evening, the EC boss Jean Mensa projected 16 million voters across the country but for the Jomoro Municipal Director of Electoral Commission, he said "we have projected 99,000 voters.

He disclosed that from Tuesday, June 30 to July 5, 2020, 21 registration centres will be catered for and from July 6 to the last date, the rest will be added.
