Nigerians in Ghana asked to remain calm as Biafrans protest in Nigeria

Nigerians living in Ghana have been advised to remain calm in the wake of mass protest in some part of Nigeria by Biafra group. Biafra, officially the Republic of Biafra, was a secessionist state in south eastern Nigeria that existed from 30 May 1967 to 15 January 1970, taking its name from the Bight of Biafra.

The inhabitants were mostly the Igbo people who led the secession due to economic, ethnic, cultural and religious tensions among the various peoples of Nigeria. The creation of the new state that was pushing for recognition was among the causes of the Nigerian Civil War, also known as the Nigerian-Biafran War.

The separatists have embarked on mass protest for a sovereign state and call for the release of their leader Nnamdi Kanu who have arrested by the police for act of terrorism according to the Nigeria security.

Speaking to Ultimate Fm the General Secretary of Nigeria Youth Association Anayo Umeakunne said they are very concern about what is currently going on in some parts of Nigeria. He therefore admonished the Biafra group to negotiate with government instead of taken to mass protest.

"We are one people and the best way is to unite, i will call on my people to resort to negotiation to help in the process, calling for a sovereign state will take time, it will not just be handed to you easily. So i call on my people to remain calm. The Biafran leadership should negotiate with government" he said
