It is a good sign most hospital beds are empty during coronavirus era – Health Minister

Health Minister, Kwaku Agyeman Manu said the country should maintain the situation of empty hospital beds at this time of the coronavirus pandemic.

At a press briefing organized by the information ministry on May 14, 22020, Mr Agyeman said unlike other countries teeming with cases of coronavirus, Ghana is privileged to still have empty beds in this era.

“Before the coronavirus we were talking about no bed syndrome, now with corona other countries have that problem but we have place in our hospitals. Our beds are empty. That is a good indication,” he stated.

Dr. Manu, however, cautioned citizens to be mindful and endeavor to practice the safety protocols in order for the country not to re-visit the no-bed syndrome situation in this pandemic period.

He stressed that if the country does not find a way of cutting the spread at this stage, it might be catastrophic.

“If we should live carelessly, our hospitals will be full and we may move into situations where we wouldn’t have places to even take patients. That is not what all of us want,” he added.

Meanwhile, Ghana's coronavirus cases have reached 5530 with 24 deaths and 674 recoveries.

The new 122 cases were announced by Director of Public Health at the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Badu Sarkodie, at the Information Ministry’s media briefing session on the Coronavirus situation in the country, Thursday morning.
