Executives of the New Patriotic Party in the Ashanti region have accused the Electoral Commission of unduly withholding voter identity cards of its members in the ongoing voter transfer exercise.

Regional executives say they have been reliably informed that ID cards of some members of the NPP are with officials of the Electoral Commission.

Addressing the media in Kumasi, NPP regional chairman, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako and Secretary Sam Pyne, decried what they described as unfair treatment by the electoral commission in the voter transfer exercise.

They accused the EC of a deliberate ploy to delay the process specifically in the Ashanti region. The NPP said discriminatory implementation of CI 94 in the Ashanti region would be resisted. NPP’s Ashanti Regional Secretary, Sam Pyne said “every regulation in CI 94 should permeate all the regions.

Ashanti region should not be singled out. We have incidents where deliberately ploy to delay the process. “People go to write their names and they retain their cards and tell them to come for it at another time, people fill the forms and they are told to come back later for the forms.

All these things happening in the Ashanti region is not happening in any other region in the country.” This follows several other accusations the main opposition NPP has made against the EC regarding the 2016 elections. Mr. Pyne further indicated that “if we want peace as other people are talking about, then justice should prevail.”
