Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah says even though it was wrong for Carlos Ahenkorah to flout the COVID-19 protocols, he should be commended for owning up to his mistake.

Mr Ahenkorah has been at the receiving end of backlash and criticism after he went monitoring some registration centres in his constituency despite testing positive for COVID-19.

In an interview, he said: “I drove in my car and got there, got down, and spoke far away with the EC officer who explained the issue to me. I told her I will report this to their boss and then I just left. I was very careful. It is important for people like us to know their status because whether you like it not, we will go into the midst of people”

This act has been widely condemned with some calling for his prosecution.

Meanwhile, the Tema West MP has resigned.

Simon Osei-Mensah who was speaking on Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo' said as a Member of Parliament Carlos should have set an example by not following the protocols "but irrespective of negative aspect, he’s shown that he is a truthful person even though I am not justifying his actions. Some people would not have owned up to their action but being bold to accept that he had COVID shows who he is. Apart from that, it is not common in Africa for one to accept his mistake and then go ahead to resign".
