Incest father charged

Samuel Dzamesi, the incest father who was arrested for allegedly impregnating his 13-year-old step daughter, has been arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court charged with defilement of a child under sixteen years.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges in the court presided over by Sedina Agbemava.

He has been remanded into police custody to re-appear on April 17, 2014. The victim, said to be pregnant for three months and two weeks, mentioned the suspect in connection with the pregnancy and also named her cousin, Simon Kakri, who she said had sex with her later in January 2014.

Meanwhile, the police are hunting for the second culprit, Simon, who has been on the run.

Presenting the facts of the case, the prosecuting officer, ASP Adiza Suleman, said the victim is a pupil of a basic school in Sokode in Ho, Volta Region, while the accused person is a welder and lives at Kotobabi, Accra, with his wife – mother of the minor.

According to the prosecutor, the mother of the victim brought her and her younger sister in October 2013 from Akoviefe in the Volta Region to Accra for a visit and later decided to enroll them into a school for them to further their education.

She stated that the victim and her sister lived with their mother and the welder but after some time, the biological father of the victim kept insisting that the victim and her sister should be sent back to the Volta Region for them to continue their education there.

The police officer added that the victim and her younger sister were subsequently sent back to the Volta Region in January 2014.

She stated further that the victim, on her return one day, was suspected to be pregnant and a witness in the case called Rose Ankugah, interrogated her (victim) who mentioned the welder as the one who often had sex with her whenever her mother went hawking.

Explaining further, she said the case was reported to the police who issued a form for the victim to attend hospital for a check-up. The medical report proved she was three-and-a-half weeks pregnant.

The prosecutor stated that the victim was dragged to court after police concluded investigations.
