Jilted boyfriend held over rival’s murder

A jilted boyfriend who could not stand the thought of his former girlfriend hanging out with another man has been arrested for slaughtering his rival.

Shadrack Antwi, 29, on Thursday appeared before the Bibiani Magistrate Court presided over by Mr. Osei Kofi Amoako, and was denied bail.

He is facing a provisional charge of murder, but his plea was not taken. He will make his next court appearance on March 3.

Police Detective Chief Inspector Michael Agbaglo said the accused had attacked and slashed Kwaku Badu to death with a machete at Yaw-Johnkrom, a farmstead in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai District in May, last year.

He fled after the crime and had been in hiding until his arrest in late January.

The prosecution said Antwi, a farmer, was for some time in a romantic relationship with one Lydia Werekoaa, a petty trader, but things went sour and they separated.

The lady entered into another relationship, something that did not go down well with the accused, and he decided to revenge in his own way.

He waylaid Lydia and her new lover as they returned from a funeral, attacked and inflicted deep machete wounds on Badu till he dropped to the ground dead.

He escaped and went into hiding after the heinous crime.
