The former Member of Parliament (MP) for the Akwatia constituency in the Eastern region, Baba Jamal has stated it is important for Ghanaians not to politicise the increasing crime rate in the country.

Ghana is now in a period of outcry following a series of crimes which has hit the country with the last few months.

Issues of contract killings as well as the kidnapping in Takoradi has gained dominance in our country with concerns been raised about the way the police operates in an era where crime has become more sophisticated.

Speaking on Adom TV’s Badwam Show on Thursday, Baba Jamal described as alarming the increasing crime rate in the country.

“The crime we are facing now is alien to our system talk of the highway robbery, contract killings and the most recent kidnapping. Let’s not politicize the issues because it can happen to anybody.”

However, Mr. Jamal said it is the responsibility of government ensuring security the country.

“We need to tell them to up their game in the security front as they promised in their manifesto because the opposition is to criticize especially when it comes to issues of national interest and that is exactly what the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is doing.”

Baba Jamal also urged the police and other security agencies to tighten their security intelligence to help manage the recent crime situation in the country.
