Man who assaulted girl friend for exposing him, fined

Kade, March 24, GNA - Tetteh Sogah, a labourer who lied to his creditor that he had not been paid his salary but was exposed by his girl friend, decided to teach her a lesson. He pounced on the woman, gave her severe beatings and hit the back of her neck with a torch light.

On being arraigned before the Kade District Magistrate Court, Sogah pleaded guilty to assaulting Linda Amoah and was fined GHC 120 or to go to prison for four months in default.

In addition Sogah, who pleaded guilty, was ordered to pay compensation of GHC 180 to the injured girl friend. Police Chief Inspector Eric Tetteh Zorh, prosecuting, told the court that on March 09, a yam seller went to the house of Sogah at Kwae and demanded GHC 30 being cost of yam he had credited from her. Sogah told his creditor that he had not received his salary but Linda, who was with him, told the woman that her boyfriend was lying for he had already been paid. Sogah beat her and hit the back of her neck with a torch light. When the Magistrate, Mr Abdul Majid Iliasu, asked Linda if Sogah had beaten her before, she replied in the affirmative.
