Four people arrested in connection with the death of girl

Beposo (Ash), April 21, GNA - Four people have been arrested by the police for their alleged complicity in the death of 15-year-old Esther Amoatemaa through abortion.

The suspects are Abena Nyame, mother of the deceased, Kofi Thiru, the prime suspect who impregnated Amoatemaa, Adwoa Kwaago and Adwoa Konadu. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Beposo, Opanin Kwadwo Agyei, father of the deceased, said he stayed with his wife and 10 children at Nkudwoa, a village near Beposo in the Sekyere West District.

He said her daughter complained of stomach ache last Monday so he took her to Nsuta health centre where the deceased confessed that she was pregnant and that the four suspects had given her certain concoctions mixed with coca cola to drink to abort the pregnancy.

Opanin Agyei said the condition of the deceased deteriorated so he was advised to take her to Asante-Mampong District Hospital where she died last Wednesday.

When the GNA contacted Assistant Superintendent of Police Stephen Kwasi Kwakye, the Mampong District Police Commander, he confirmed the arrest of the four suspects and said the case was under investigation.
