Farmer remanded in prison custody for allegedly stealing 15 tubers of yam

Mankranso-Ashanti, Dec. 28, GNA The Mankranso Magistrate's court has remanded a 19-year-old farmer in prison custody for allegedly stealing 15 tubers of yam valued at 300,000 cedis. Kwame Collins pleaded guilty and would re-appear on January 9 for sentence.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector George Nyansu told the court presided over by Mr Frank Owusu-Afriyie that the accused and Seidu Amin, the complainant were farmers at Asuogya near Wioso in the Ahafo Ano South District. He said in the afternoon of November 12, this year, the accused was seen by some residents carrying some tubers of yam into his house.

The prosecution said they became suspicious and immediately confronted the accused but could not give any tangible reasons and a report was made to Wioso police who arrested him. He said during interrogation, the accused confessed stealing the yams from the complainant's farm and after investigations charged with the offence.
