Cocaine@Stomach: Ghanaian resident in Italy busted

Accra, Feb. 9, GNA - Abraham Otibah, a Ghanaian resident in Italy, on Friday appeared before an Accra Regional Tribunal for attempting to smuggle cocaine out of the country.
Otibah's plea was not taken and the three-member tribunal chaired by Mr Justice Frank Manu remanded him into custody until February 22. The facts of the matter as narrated by the prosecution were that on February 3, the accused person arrived at the Kotoka International Airport to board a Lufthansa Flight to Italy.
The prosecution told the tribunal that officials of the Narcotics Control Board on duty at the Airport suspected Otibah of carrying foreign materials in his stomach.
The accused person was escorted to the 37 Military Hospital where, after undergoing X-ray examination, expelled 115 thumb-size oval shaped pellets of substances suspected to be cocaine.
Otibah mentioned one Nana Osei as the person who asked him to swallow the stuff and deliver them to one Alhaji in Italy for a fee of 4,000 Euros.
According to the prosecution, Otibah refused to escort the police to arrest Nana Osei while the stuff has been sent to the Ghana Standards Board for analytical examination.
