The board of the National Communications Authority (NCA) is expected to soon begin considering the proposal for the merger between Tigo and Airtel.

It follows the official inauguration of the Board of the NCA in Accra Thursday.

The absence of a board at the NCA due to the change in government has been described as the inability of the two firms to receive approval from the regulator for the proposed merger. Communications Minister Ursula Owusu-Ekuful told Starr Business shortly after the inauguration of the NCA Board that the regulatory approval is on course.

“I think it’s on course, they have written to the regulator for regulatory approval and the regulator is going through the motions so we should see the conclusions of this very soon,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Board of the NCA Kweku Sakyi-Addo has assured the board will do its best to ensure the country’s telecom sector becomes a leader on the continent.
