CORRUPTION IN BUSINESS REGISTRATION: GRA & REGISTRAR GENERAL'S DEPARTMENT FRUSTRATE CUSTOMERS
Dear Mr. Yoofi Grant:
Good morning.
Here (below) are 2 organizations that frustrate your attempts to increase investments in Ghana and continue to give us a bad name: GR and Registrar General's Department.
ONE-STOP-SHOP:
Please Find a way to deal with them. Perhaps a ONE-STOP-SHOP in your offices around the country will help reduce the mess. When they operate co-located in your offices, they will be less likely to risk corrupt practices because customers can just walk over to your staff to complain.
DIFFICULT, CUMBERSOME, PROTRACTED, CORRUPT PROCESSES:
Procedures for Doing Business in Ghana are SIGNIFICANTLY MORE difficult, cumbersome, and protracted than the World Bank Reports of the same. Please do NOT be fooled by official reports and statements.
OBSTACLES TO REGISTERING A BUSINESS:
To Register a Company, you need to get a Tax ID Number before you can submit papers to Registrar General's Department. Both agencies have seriously criminal elements as full-time workers. They insist on bribes.
GHANA REVENUE AUTHORITY (GRA)
GRA has lots of criminal elements. The Tax ID Number (TIN) is a FREE service, but your GRA staff are asking for and collecting bribes performing the same service. When a customer points that it is FREE, they tell you, then you can go to another branch. This happened to us at the branch DOMESTIC TAX REVENUE ( HEAD OFFICE) in Accra. There was a woman there who was insisting on getting a specified amount in the trhee digits of Ghana Cedis this FREE service. We refused to pay. Finally one of her colleagues asked us to come for the service. SHAME on the criminal elements working at GRA!!
Anyone going to GRA to get TIN number, should consider recording videos and audios on their mobile phone before they enter the building and throughout the transactions.
REGISTRAR GENERAL'S DEPARTMENT
For decades, this office has been a perennially shameless cesspool of corrupt employees! I can't believe they are part of the Ministry of Justice! The employees there (I mean EMPLOYEES, NOT the middlemen) ask for bribes in the order of 5 to 10 times the actual fees for registering a company. And if you do not pay, they frustrate you with delays, lost files, etc..
