The "French Digital June" forum will start from the 1st till the 6th of June in Accra.

This project co-organized by the French Embassy, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry France Ghana (CCIFG) and the Alliance Française, will consist of several events devoted to digitization.

The "French digital June" is being organized by different French institutions operating in Ghana under the headline initiative “France & Ghana 1957-2017: moving forward together”, the objective of which is to deepen bilateral collaboration between the two countries.

As the “French Digital June” illustrates, the desire of the French Embassy in Ghana is to bring the dynamics of our two countries together, particularly in terms of digital innovation.

French Digital June is divided into three sections with different dimensions.

In this project, the Hackathon is the background event and the educational part. It features a competition that seeks to change and modernize the learning of French in Ghana.

The aim of this contest is to develop a useful product for learners in order to promote a more dynamic image of French. It also seeks to sensitize teachers on this digital tool and on diverse teaching practices.

At the end of the competition, a PowerPoint slide of the application would be presented to the jury.

The winning team will be awarded 3000 GHS, as well as a possibility of developing the app (possible support from Ghanaian/French companies) Under the high patronage of the Ambassador France to Ghana, H.E. Francois Pujolas, the economic component of the French Digital June forum will take place on the 6th of June at the Best Western Premier Hotel at Airport.

The agenda will focus on providing an outlook of the Ghanaian digital economy, with emphasis made on key digital platforms in the Ghanaian industry which include mobile money, e-commerce and e-learning.

Presentations will be made, from key digital stakeholders implanted in Ghana, to share their expertise with participants.

The event will also give opportunity for a series of workshops that will focus on technological innovations by different digital entrepreneurs in the industry.

The workshops will allow participants to benefit from practical advice and experiences shared on how to launch a start-up, discuss financial challenges faced and a session on women in technology.

Facilitators for the Digital forum include KPMG, Tonaton, Société Générale, JUMP-Busy Internet and Chalkboard. On the same day at 6:30 pm, the verdict of the Hackaton will be rendered at an Award ceremony, during the exhibition opening « French touch of web creation » at Alliance Française.

Only those with an invitation will be present at this cultural part of the digital week.

It will however be open to the public on 7th and on 8th June.

What’s the aim of the “French Digital June” in Accra?

The Ghanaian entrepreneurial ecosystem is now in full bloom. Dynamic, innovative and pragmatic, Ghanaian entrepreneurs are the result of this new technological generation, which is evolving in a society of profound change.

Accra is thus part of these dynamic, innovative cities, hosting many start-ups and incubators, as is depicted by the signing of the MEST/Paris & Co agreement in April.

It also shows the interest aroused by the Ghanaian entrepreneurial ecosystem and its qualities of innovation, with French digital operators already present in Africa within the French Tech hubs of Abidjan and Cape Town.

This cooperation comes as France hosts the largest incubator in the world: ‘’Station F’’, a symbol of France’s role as a forerunner in the field of new technologies.

The French Digital June forum will be a one of a kind event to interact with key digital stakeholders, to learn about the digital sector in Ghana as well as the strides being made, and to discover effective solutions provided by various actors in the digital industry which contributes to the promotion of technological potential in Ghana.

It will be an invitation-only event organised in the framework of the “France in Ghana 1957-2017: moving forward together”.
