The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has debunked reports that there is an influx of some rice on their Ghanaian market purportedly made from plastic.

According to the food regulator, its surveillance team combed through various markets and yet no “plastic rice” was seen on the market.

“It has come to the attention of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) that some reports on social media allege the sale and distribution of purported ‘plastic rice’ on the Ghanaian market.

“The FDA, as part of its mandate, has in the past two (2) months embarked on post market surveillance activities to investigate the said allegation. The FDA did not find any of the said ‘plastic rice’ on the market,”

FDA said in a statement. The Authority therefore encouraged the general public to bring samples of any alleged ‘plastic rice’ to the FDA or give information on persons connected to the sale or distribution of such products.
