The security argument is bunkum in today's modern world. The UK's security has not been compromised since the 1980's when power generation and distribution were privatised. Today power generation and distribution in the UK is in the hands of foreign and national companies. The big six as they are called are British Gas owned by UK firm Centrica, EDF Energy, owned by French firm Electricite de France, npower and E.ON both German owned, Scottish Power, Spanish owned and SSE. The UK was facing the same inefficiency of operations of power generation and distribution, just like Ghana is facing, until the Margret Thatcher govt took the bold decision to break the monopoly of the state institution and introduced privatisation. Today competition has brought efficiency and competitive prices to the sector. State institutions in the utilities have failed and government must bring in private enterprises to change the rot.

Samson, I totally agree with you.Privatising the ECG will not compromise the security of the state. As you said privatizing the electricity sector in the UK has brought efficiency and competitive prices to the sector as well as several choices for the consumer to make. The important thing is for the government to ensure that several companies are generating and distributing electricity and that consumers are not ripped off by these private companies.
