Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has emphasised that the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) remains the key to Africa’s industrialisation and transformation.
He noted that leveraging the AfCFTA, which offers access to a market of 1.3 billion Africans with a combined GDP of US$3.4 trillion, is an absolute imperative for the continent’s growth.
In a post on his X page following a meeting with the Secretary-General of the AfCFTA, Wamkele Mene, on September 4, 2025, Ablakwa stated, “It’s been refreshing holding talks with H.E. Wamkele Mene, the dynamic Secretary-General of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). Ghana is proud to host the Secretariat and will continue to guarantee all privileges and courtesies.”

He further stressed that the AfCFTA, first envisioned by Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, represents a historic opportunity to drive Africa’s economic transformation.
“As we prioritise economic diplomacy, leveraging AfCFTA with a market of 1.3 billion Africans and a combined GDP of US$3.4 trillion is an absolute imperative,” Ablakwa reiterated.
