Trade Minister inaugurates board for GHEL

Alan Kyerematen Trade and Industry minister inaugurates GHEL board of directors

The Minister of Trade and Industry Alan Kyerematen has inaugurated a new board of directors of the Ghana Heavy Equipment Limited.

The six-member board is to among others work with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture under the planting for food and jobs agenda to establish mechanization centres in every district in Ghana.

“These mechanization centres to be established in each district is meant to bring machinery and equipment to the doorsteps of the ordinary farmer and other business operators,” Alan Kyerematen said.

“We would hope that the board working together with your team will now take advantage of this opportunity and provide the machinery and equipment for these mechanization centres” he added.

The minister urged the board members to work assiduously to develop the full potential of the company, as he believes the company has potential.

“I think this company has played a key role in terms of providing machinery and equipment to support Ghana’s industrial development. However in my view, I think that the company has not optimized its real potential and that is why I believe that as the new members of the board, you have a major task ahead of you to try and transform this particular company” he said.

Mr. Kyerematen added that “Fortunately, you are taking office at a time when the government itself has launched a very comprehensive and ambitious program for industrial transformation which places your company and its operations right at the centre of our industrial development agenda”.

The minister also charged the newly sworn-in members to endeavor to transform the industry positively and work to make the company one of the biggest state-owned enterprises within the next few years.

“I am very confident that you will use your combined experience and expertise in business to make sure that this company becomes one of the leading state-owned enterprises in the next few years” he added.

Members of the board include Mr. Yaw Ntow Ababio, who is the Chief Executive of the company, Dr. Kwabena Twum-Nuamah, Mr. Robert Bediako Asare, and Mrs. Dorothy Ama Amponsah.

Others are Alhaji Alidu Abukari and Mr. Prince Opoku Edusei.

Chief Executive of the company Mr. Yaw Ntow Ababio, pledged his and the new members support to work hard to revamp the company again.

“We will use our expertise and experience as you said in the private sector to let this Ghana Heavy Equipment Company Limited work again”.
