The Bediako family that has dominated Ghana's pharmaceutical industry for decades

Coming from the lineage of the late Ebenezer Sampong Bediako, a former pharmaceutical businessman, are the biggest names and brands making strides in Ghana’s pharmaceutical industry for decades.

The late businessman’s family, consisting of his children, nephews, nieces, and grandchildren, all own an array of pharmaceutical companies across the country, including Ernest Chemists, Bedita Pharmaceuticals, and Jebina Pharmacy Ltd, among others.

This list was captured in a photo of the obituary of Ebenezer Sampong Bediako, who passed away on December 26, 2020.

The astute businessman was born in 1935 and served as the Chief Executive Officer of Bediako Brothers Pharmacy.

Ebenezer Sampong Bediako had 6 wives and 47 children.

In Ghana, the pharmaceutical industry has long played a major role in providing key services to individuals and entities in the hospitality and health sectors, across urban and rural areas.

In addition, the sector contributes significantly to the domestic economy, while boosting export avenues.

The pharma industry, according to Statista, is expected to achieve a revenue of US$236 million in 2024.

The industry mainly comprises producers of drugs, wholesalers, distributors, retailers and consumers.
