´Provide training for Ghanaian artisans´

The Vice-President, Mr Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, has asked players in the automobile industry to support Ghanaian artisans by providing them training to boost their capacity to handle complex challenges in the fast-changing sector.

He indicated that the industry was becoming dynamic in view of the calibre of vehicles that were manufactured.

He also underscored the need for the country to take advantage of the dynamism in the automobile environment to train more people to handle difficult assignments.

Mr Amissah-Arthur made the call when he inaugurated the Takoradi branch of Mechanical Lloyd Company Limited in the Western Region on Tuesday.

The inauguration of the ultra-modern edifice brings to five the number of branches of the company in the country — two in Accra and one each in Kumasi and Tamale.

The new facility has a showroom and a maintenance centre where vehicle spare parts are held at one place.

The Vice-President lauded the management of Mechanical Lloyd Company for its confidence in the economy which had found expression in its preparedness to extend the services of the company to other parts of the country.

He urged the management of the company to ensure that clients derived the maximum value from its services and expressed the hope that the facility would improve the economy of the Western Region, since it would provide local content, as well as quality services.

Mr Amissah-Arthur expressed the hope that the facility would also help prolong the life span of vehicles to enable their owners to derive the needed benefits from them.

“With your rich history in the automobile sector, you should be able to help consumers benefit from the modern technology in vehicle servicing,” he added.
He urged the company to use its vast experience in the industry to organise training for local artisans who are into vehicle maintenance to help improve automobile servicing.

The Board Chairman of Mechanical Lloyd, Mr Charles Zwennes Snr, said the branch would provide consumers with the best of products and services.
He described the facility as a new state-of-the-art technology centre for better service delivery.

For his part, the Regional Manager, Sales and Marketing of Ford Motor Company in charge of sub-Saharan Africa, Mr Rob Johnson, described Africa as a growing market with the potential to take over the rest of the world in terms of the automobile market.
