NDC will review HIPC - Obed

Nkoranza (B/A), Jan 31, GNA - The National Democratic Congress (NDC) will review the HIPC initiative when voted back to power in December, the Party's National Chairman, Dr Obed Asamoah, announced at Nkoranza, in Brong Ahafo.
He blamed the high cost of living in the country on the initiative and said the Party would review it to uphold the dignity of Ghanaians. Dr Asamoah was addressing members of the party as part of a tour of the region by some National Executive Members including Mr Isaac Adjei-Mensah, Deputy Minority Leader and MP for Techiman North, Mr Haruna Iddrissu, National Youth Organiser and Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, National Organiser.
Others Executives were Mr Francis Hayford Amoako, MP for Nkoranza and Hajia Salamatu, Deputy National Women Organiser.
Dr Asamoah accused the government of using the District Assemblies Common Fund for development projects and labelling them as benefits of the HIPC initiative.
"The NPP government is also intimidating and harassing NDC intellects for fear of they revealing the secrets behind the HIPC policy to Ghanaians," he said adding that, "if Ghanaians cast their minds to the past they will realise that NDC was a blessed government for them".
The NDC National Chairman advised members of the Party and the other political parties to be vigilant during the voters registration exercise to ensure that "the ruling party does not register minors or the underage".
Mr. Ampofo, MP for Fanteakwa, said because of the high cost of living, "Ghanaians cannot afford to buy chicken and this has led to the killing and consumption of vultures".
Mr. Amoako urged other political parties to avoid violence during the election, noting that, NDC had gained political maturity and would not promote violence but would rather improve transparency in the December elections.
He expressed the hope that the votes NDC secured in the 1996 election in Brong-Ahafo would be retained.
