More police officers have been deployed to the Black Star Square, where a help centre has been set up to assist parents and guardians whose wards have challenges with their school selection and placement.

On Monday, September 16, the number swelled at the Greater Accra Region’s centre as parents and guardians sought solutions to their challenges.

Most of these parents and their wards had to be in the sun for too long, leaving some so frustrated.

A mother collapsed and her daughter expressed frustration, saying she will not continue her education any longer if government does not solve the situation.

On Tuesday, security was beefed up at the venue.

“Looking at our plans, we have enough men to contain the situation,” the Commander of the Alpha Unit of the Accra Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service, DSP Sulley Sulemana, told TV3’s Wendy Laryea.

DSP Sulemana says a meeting was held with officials of the Computerised Schools Selection and Placement Centre (CSSPS) over the “chaos” on Monday.

“We don’t want the situation they keep standing on their feet. Some of them are very weak.”

He said desks have been set up at the Black Star Square to break down the numbers in order to make it simple for officers to address their concerns.

“They don’t have the same problems. And now they have created desks and categorized [the problems].”
