Mahama has a 'superior' record in the fight against corruption – NDC

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has heaped praises on former president John Dramani Mahama for tackling corruption during his tenure as Ghana’s president.

According to the NDC, Mahama is the only president in the 4th republic who has invested hugely in infrastructure and developmental projects.

The above stance by the NDC was in response to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) claims that the NDC is arrogantly and disrespectfully presenting a presidential candidate who destroyed Ghana between the period of 2012 and 2016 and was rejected.

In a rebuttal, Communications Director of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi said the incessant town hall meetings and press conferences have become the new found love of the NPP to the extent that millions of tax payers’ money is now being spent to transport government officials to ostensibly tell the Akufo-Addo story.

“Contrary to the claims that John Mahama destroyed Ghana, we will submit to you that John Dramani Mahama is the only president in Ghana in the 4th republic who has made the biggest investments in the area of health, in the area of water, in the area of energy, in the area of communications, in the area of housing, roads education.” Sammy Gyamfi posited.

Sammy Gyamfi stated that John Boadu is calling for a tune he has no legs to dance to, while touting the impressive record of John Mahama continues to haunt the NPP.

“The NDC is a major source of constant headache to government,” he boasted.

While arguing that the standard was high in Mahama’s government, he maintained that the erstwhile president had the political courage and will to prosecute his executives in the fight against corruption.

“In the GYEEDA matter even though some comrades of ours were fingered, President Mahama didn’t say that because they belong to his political party he was going to shield them. He didn’t act as a clearing agent. He didn’t speak for anybody. He didn’t cover up corruption. He investigated it, made the report public, acted on it prosecuted his own and punished them.”

The opposition, instead, fingered the NPP of instigating various forms of corruption adding that the seat of government has become a monument of corruption. The NDC claims president Akufo-Addo is aware of nepotism in his government but continues to cover up for his appointees.

“Today, the president himself, has turned himself to a clearing agent speaking for his errant appointees, defending them and covering up many cases of corruption. Look at the National Lottery Authority scandal for example, where in just one day the CEO of NLA Mr Oswei Ameyaw awarded 11 contracts to his sister in-law. President Akufo-Addo knows of this. What has he done about that clear case of corruption?” Gyamfi asked rhetorically.

As a result, Sammy Gyamfi has accused the president of turning a blind eye to corruptible behaviours because he is the “chief promoter of corruption”.
