Speaking to the media after the exercise, Mr Paul Essien said 'As an MP, he has to launch a sanitation campaign to make the Constituency clean and save his people from dying as a result of unhygienic environments'.

He revealed that making the constituency clean was one of 2016 campaign pledges adding that, he would invest in this sanitation campaign.

Mr Essien said he would link up with the Chiefs and Assembly Members in the Constituency to support the initiative to benefit all.

The MP therefore seized the opportunity to promise to give a prestigious award to a community which will keep its environment very tidy.

He urged the people in the area to keep their surroundings clean and observe personal hygienic practices to free themselves against the outbreak of communicable diseases and advised them to desist from littering the streets and gutters.

Mr Essien expressed dissatisfaction about the habit of people who deliberately throw refuse at public gatherings and places.

He challenged the unit committees to educate the people about the importance to keep their surroundings clean at all times.

He appealed to religious leaders to use the pulpit to educate their congregation on the essence of proper environmental sanitation.

The MP asked teachers to organise regular clean-up exercises in their schools to inculcate in their students the spirit of voluntarism in order to grow up and render active communal services in their communities.

Mr Essien thanked the youth who devoted their precious time to support the clean-up exercise.

He also thanked the Chief of the community who also took part in the exercise and promised to take part in the subsequent exercises in the area.

He further stated that his outfit will provide the needed logistics available for the exercise at the various communities.

On his part, the Constituency Chairman of the NPP in the area, Mr. Simon Amoah thanked the MP for the initiative and pledged to support the exercise.

Mr. Amoah pointed out that the party had initiated a number of educational activities, including regular clean-up exercises to create enough public awareness about the need to keep the environment clean at all times.

Stating that the clean-up exercise would also help invigorate the communal spirit of the people in the Constituency.
