National General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia is optimistic of retaining his position after today’s congress.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia is going head-to-head with his deputy, Koku Anyidoho, whom some political pollsters have predicted will be the one to end the general secretary’s political career

More than 9,000 delegates from across the country are meeting in Accra today for the party’s 9th National Delegates Congress at which national executives will be elected ahead of the 2020 elections.

The General Secretary who is more concerned about the success of today’s congress than his candidature, declined to talk about his chances in the national executive election.

But speaking to Kwakye Afreh-Nuamah at ahead of the elections at the Trade Fair Centre in Accra Saturday, Mr. Asiedu Nketia responded in the affirmative when asked if he will remain the general secretary by close of today.

Commenting on preparations so far and the expectations Mr. Asiedu Nketia said all was set for the event to take off, even though he noted there were a few challenges.

As a member of the planning committee, he said he does not see anything wrong with groups identified to vigilante groups supporting the security services to maintain law and order.

He is hopeful that the congress will be successful to ready the party for the “2020 victory agenda” of the NDC.

“They will be complimenting the security. We have security at our headquarters and every organisation has internal security so I don’t have any problem having them around complimenting the state security,” he said.
