I can’t suffer for sitting MP to enjoy; I’ll return to Parliament – Ex MP

Former Member of Parliament for Assin Manso Akroso, Yaw Owusu Boateng says he’s quit doing ‘Monkey dey work baboon dey chop’ job as he’s over the past two years been spending his financial resources on constituents while the incumbent MP enjoys his money.

Yaw Owusu Boateng who was the MP for 8 years was defeated by the incumbent MP, George Kwame Aboagye in the NPP primaries ahead of the 2016 elections.

He polled only 80 votes while George Kwame Aboagye who’s now the sitting MP had 314 votes.

In an interview, Hon. Yaw Owusu Boateng said though he’s not the sitting MP, he is always saddled with the difficulty having to offer diverse support to many of the constituents who flood his home whenever he’s in the constituency.

He stated that he’ll return to Parliament to finish his unfinished business so that when he’s helping the constituents he knows he’s doing that as his responsibility.

“I’m now quietly minding my business at home, but I have several constituents everyday flooding my house with all sorts of requests and asking for financial support anytime I visit the constituency. Now I hardly go out, but the way the constituents are worrying me I feel I have to return to Parliament to continue with my unfinished business.”

He added: “At first, I told myself that as a human being I couldn’t have done all the work expected of me, but I can boldly say that though I’m not the MP now I’m doing the work of an MP more than even the sitting MP. Whenever the constituents come to me I ask them to go to their MP for help and they tell me that he doesn’t support them when they go to him. They’re really worrying me, even the little money left on me that I’m spending small small they’re always asking that I support them financially. So if I’m sitting quietly behind the scene as former MP but give out such support then I think I have to return to Parliament so that when I’m helping the constituents then I know I’m doing that as their MP.”

Meanwhile, the sitting MP, George Aboagye in an interview with Kasapa News has dismissed the claims by the ex-MP that he’s not doing much to support them.

According to him, in his two and half years in office, the developmental projects he’s undertaken especially in the Educational sector including the establishment of ICT centres in all the Junior High School in the constituency is far more than the ex-MP can boast of in his 8 years in office.

Hon. Aboagye stated that he doesn’t fear contest vowing to once again defeat the ex-MP if he contests in the party’s primary.
