The Minister of Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, has lauded President John Dramani Mahama for his contribution to Ghana's agricultural sector, describing him as the country's leading onion farmer.
Speaking in an interview on Peace FM's Kokrokoo programme on Monday, October 6, 2025, Opoku said no Ghanaian currently matches President Mahama's scale of onion farming.
"President John Dramani Mahama, there is no one in Ghana who can farm more onions than him, and I am yet to see someone who can beat him on that record. I am saying it on authority," he said.
He further revealed that Mahama owns one of the largest onion farms in the country, to the extent that it has become challenging to find enough labourers to work during harvest seasons.

"He has the biggest onion farm, and it even became difficult to get labourers to work on the farm for harvesting, so we had to eventually go for machines.
"He is also involved in animal rearing, cow farming, rice farming, and various types of farming. All his brothers and siblings are also into farming," Opoku added.
Eric Opoku, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Asunafo South, urged Ghanaian youth to take inspiration from the president's example and venture into agriculture as a viable source of employment.
"So, if you are a young boy or girl without a job, go into agriculture," he advised.
